Lyter Home

As they entered their retirement years, George and Carey Lyter’s old farmhouse felt too large; ideally, they wanted to move into a smaller house. Yet the couple admittedly needed a garage that was not only useful, but could accommodate George’s car collection. The decision? To build something unique to their wants.
The Lyter’s chose LeFevre Wilk Architects, LLC (LWA) to be their architects, as they knew LWA’s commitment to bringing clients’ visions to life. In terms of the couple’s requirements, that meant having an office space, a big, open livingroom, space for Carey’s sewing and other hobbies, and an open kitchen leading to the back so they could entertain large groups of friends. Efficiency and high quality were of extreme importance to the Lyters; LWA was sensitive to those needs.
LWA’s comprehensive design plan for the Lyter’s included a hillside, A-frame beach cottage house featuring an expansive entertainment area, entryway with cathedral ceiling, pantry/laundry, master bedroom, cozy office and, of course, a large garage (located underneath). The garage posed a bit of a challenge, as the flooring was made of commercial concrete plank, not often available in small quantities. But LWA was able to find a supplier for the minimal quantity necessary to fulfill the Lyter’s desires.
The resultant design is light, airy and perfect for the husband and wife.
